Building Blocks to Success: Mastering Goal Setting with Leilani Batty (Ep: 39)

About Building Blocks

Leilani Batty is the Director of PMO at Advent Health, where she manages all IT projects and leads her team. She is transitioning to a new company to start her next professional chapter, bringing with her extensive knowledge and learnings from her current role.

Episode Summary

  • Leilani discusses her progress toward FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) and how she and her family have achieved a debt-free lifestyle with their house, cars, and son's college education fully paid off.
  • She shares insights on adapting long-term goals based on new information and experiences, including how her passion project in 3D printing didn't work out as expected but provided valuable learning opportunities.
  • The conversation explores breaking down large 10-year goals into measurable quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily actions to maintain momentum and track progress.
  • Leilani addresses the challenge of multi-passionate individuals who want to pursue multiple interests simultaneously, recommending time-boxing focus areas for 12 months with clear success criteria.
  • She emphasizes how past experiences and skills build upon each other like puzzle pieces, eventually revealing a bigger picture and purpose even when individual projects seem unrelated.

Key Takeaways

  1. Achieve financial independence by eliminating debt systematically - pay off your house, cars, and educational expenses to create a strong foundation for long-term goals.
  2. Break down ambitious 10-year goals into smaller, measurable steps that you can track on annual, quarterly, monthly, and daily bases to maintain momentum.
  3. Time-box your focus when you have multiple interests - commit to one area for 12 months with clear success criteria before deciding whether to continue or pivot.
  4. View failed projects as learning experiences rather than failures - skills and knowledge from unsuccessful ventures often contribute to future success in unexpected ways.
  5. Take small daily actions toward your goals, even if minimal, to avoid losing momentum and maintain consistent progress over time.

Productivity & Success Habits

Leilani Batty has developed a comprehensive system for achieving both professional and personal goals, treating herself like a project with clear work breakdown structures. Her approach centers on the FIRE philosophy (Financial Independence, Retire Early), which she's successfully implementing by eliminating all debt - paying off their house, cars, and son's college education while maintaining only a credit card they pay off monthly. Rather than setting New Year's resolutions, Leilani prefers to establish goals on her birthday, finding it more meaningful as "when you celebrate your birth, it's your life cycle as opposed to please everybody with some kind of New Year's resolution."

Her daily routine is meticulously structured, starting at 5:30 AM and including protected time blocks throughout the day. She maintains strict boundaries by blocking noon to 1:00 PM for no meetings, institutes no meetings on Friday afternoons for her team to catch up on administrative work, and dedicates her mornings from 6:30-8:00 AM to meditation and personal development. "I always try to make sure my team knows this - I put no meetings on my calendar from noon to 1:00... it gives me the mental break that I need to recharge," she explains. Leilani uses an old-school notebook for journaling and planning, believing "there's something that you can't beat by writing something down on a piece of paper."

Her goal-setting methodology follows a systematic approach: she starts with long-term objectives (like her 10-year FIRE goal), then breaks them down into annual, quarterly, and monthly milestones. For weekly planning, she sets specific intentions every Sunday, reviewing both her work calendar and personal goals to determine what she wants to accomplish. She emphasizes the importance of daily consistency, dedicating an hour each day to learning and applying new knowledge toward her passion projects. "It's taking very small measurable steps but still looking at a year, five years, and 10 years down the road," she notes, stressing that even small daily actions prevent losing momentum toward larger objectives.

Final Thoughts & Advice

Throughout the conversation, Leilani emphasized the critical importance of being open to new opportunities and experiences while maintaining focus on long-term objectives. Her journey from full-stack developer to Director of PMO exemplifies this philosophy, as she noted: "I think the key is to be open to new opportunities and experiences that people offer you and to listen when you hear something that hits your interest and see where it takes you." She particularly advocates for pursuing challenging certifications like the PMP, not necessarily for immediate career application, but for the confidence boost that comes from stretching beyond one's comfort zone.

For those struggling with multiple interests and career directions - what she calls "multi-passionate individuals" - Leilani recommends the time-boxing approach borrowed from agile development. "Pick one, give it a shot, time box it... tell yourself hey I'm going to give this one year," she advises, emphasizing that failure is part of the discovery process. She stresses that goals should evolve as you gain new information and experience, stating "your goals change as you try something, you assimilate new information and evidence of how that's progressing."

Her overarching message centers on treating personal development like a project management exercise: "Treat yourself like a project, treat yourself like a product and build your own personal product roadmap." This systematic approach, combined with consistent daily actions and regular reflection during weekend reviews, creates a sustainable framework for achieving both immediate objectives and long-term aspirations. Leilani's success in reaching financial independence while pursuing passion projects demonstrates that with proper planning, time management, and persistence, it's possible to build multiple streams of progress simultaneously.

Notable Quotes

"Your goals change as you try something you assimilate new information and evidence how that progressing you may realize okay I need to adjust it maybe I need to put it a little bit... The Big goal is being able to have Financial Independence that is the longterm goal the steps to get there that will take maybe one year maybe six months to get there that is what I constantly evaluate."

Leilani Batty Discussing how to approach long-term goal setting while remaining flexible with your strategy.

"It all builds upon each other and at some point perhaps it even reveals that gift and talent that you meant to share with the world which is like building blocks and pieces that build until you see this final Masterpiece of a product that you realize this is what you're meant to do."

Leilani Batty Explaining how seemingly unrelated experiences and skills connect over time to form your life's purpose.

"Pick one give it a shot time box it... tell yourself hey I'm going to give this one year I think one year's pretty fair enough duration of time to experiment and give it a shot and determine what your success criteria is... if you're saying that the results aren't what you're expecting then consider it's okay."

Leilani Batty Advising how to handle having multiple interests and passions by focusing on one thing at a time with clear timeframes.

Episode transcript
[0:00] welcome Lani thank you so much this is
[0:03] exactly 1 year ago that where we met for
[0:06] our first session in which we talk about
[0:09] similar topic goal setting your process
[0:12] your vision board how you're planning
[0:14] the long-term goal and how you're
[0:16] planning on a day to-day basis lilani
[0:20] work at Advent help as a director of pmo
[0:23] office she managed all of our IT project
[0:26] she and her team and sadly she is
[0:30] leaving us to join another company but
[0:33] we are also excited that she's starting
[0:35] her new endover so with that Leilani
[0:39] welcome to the podcast I'm so excited to
[0:43] have you again thank you thank you so
[0:46] much for watching me I'm excited to be
[0:47] here again to you and share an update
[0:50] and talk about the journey both
[0:52] professionally personally or an ad and
[0:55] and just like you said it's bit sweet
[0:56] for me as I can impr my journey with ad
[0:58] and health but I take with me a lot of
[1:01] knowledge and learnings from the theme
[1:03] that I'll definitely use in my next
[1:05] chapter in my life that will continue to
[1:08] your further my growth in my
[1:10] development
[1:12] awesome
[1:14] congratulations I'm sure our part will
[1:16] cross again regarding the last podcast
[1:19] where we talk about bull setting we talk
[1:22] about how you plan so one of the thing
[1:25] that you mention is your fire system
[1:28] where you want to fire yourself in 10
[1:30] years so how are you doing with progress
[1:33] and the big goals that you have
[1:36] absolutely first off for those that
[1:38] aren't familiar with what wiring
[1:40] yourself needs it's definitely
[1:43] ative activity or goal it means
[1:46] financial Independence retire
[1:50] early and what that means is you want to
[1:54] position yourself financially so that
[1:57] you can do whatever it is you want to do
[1:59] with your life whether that means you
[2:02] want to continue in the role that you
[2:04] serve in in a particular company or
[2:07] organization or if you want to Branch
[2:09] out and do your wrong thing or if you
[2:11] just simply want to enjoyy time um
[2:15] puring stes and being me family I do
[2:18] feel like I progressing really well in
[2:21] that file I know there's a lot
[2:24] of discussion on learning and social
[2:27] media around inflation or things more
[2:30] expensive and costing more that's so for
[2:32] me and my family we want to spend we
[2:35] minimize our expenses things are paed
[2:37] off the house p and so we're in a really
[2:40] good place that said obviously there not
[2:43] quite there yet but they still need to
[2:44] pursue a day di to to continue that goal
[2:48] but I do feel that I we've established
[2:50] my family and I have established a
[2:52] really great foundation in terms of our
[2:54] debt ratio um don't have any debt and
[2:58] we're on a path so that for own at some
[3:01] point I can pursue a a different
[3:04] Endeavor that that'll allow me to be
[3:07] more aous and enviral you said you don't
[3:10] have any no we all our cars paid off
[3:13] college education for our son is paid
[3:15] off the house is paid off we we have a
[3:18] credit card but we use that simply just
[3:20] to you know make purchases and PID that
[3:22] off and every statement we contribute to
[3:27] our retire our only retirement plans sub
[3:30] not our ability so yeah we're from a
[3:34] depth perspective we are actually really
[3:35] good proud of ourselves keep wow that
[3:39] that's awesome
[3:41] congratulations we also believe in that
[3:43] philosophy and we minimize whatever we
[3:47] can minimize so we have paid out for our
[3:50] house and the rental but then we move
[3:53] into this house so we still have that
[3:56] but that's one other thing that we try
[3:58] to do is to not have any debt yes that
[4:01] is so important if you want to Achieve
[4:04] Financial Independence there's obviously
[4:06] there's a con having good debt which is
[4:09] something that you can look at getting
[4:12] some tax savings on like house payment
[4:14] or the mortgage but we try to avoid all
[4:17] that as much as possible and in the that
[4:19] something were to financially impact us
[4:22] that we could absorb that so they're in
[4:24] a good shape in case of any emergencies
[4:27] through and I'm sure you can understand
[4:30] having something feed off like that it
[4:32] feels really impress yes so moving into
[4:36] the your big goal think about long-term
[4:39] goal you have this fire goal and plus
[4:44] some other aspiration around joy around
[4:47] your sight passion around other things
[4:50] so how do you plan and track those long
[4:53] 10 years
[4:55] goals yeah and it's funny because when
[4:58] you make a ball
[5:00] I don't want people to think that okay I
[5:01] made this goal I'm just G to stick with
[5:03] it and it's never going to change no
[5:05] your goals change yes as you try
[5:08] something you assimilate new information
[5:11] and evidence how that Wells Pro
[5:14] progressing you may realize okay I need
[5:16] to Trigg it maybe I need to put it a
[5:17] little bit the the Big B is is being
[5:20] able to have Financial Independence that
[5:23] is the longterm goal the the steps to
[5:26] get there that will take well my one
[5:31] year maybe six months to get there that
[5:34] is what I I constantly evaluate and put
[5:38] it on for
[5:39] example this time last year I was
[5:43] looking at something a personal fashion
[5:46] project of mine outside of what I do my
[5:49] daytime career to help funnel more more
[5:53] income into that fire bul of mine uh
[5:57] didn't quite work out the way I expected
[5:59] you know what that's okay you've got to
[6:01] feel multiple times of you make that
[6:04] that that big discovery that that you
[6:06] find that thing that actually works for
[6:08] you um very rarely is anybody um going
[6:12] to be able to try something and knock it
[6:16] out of the par the first time this time
[6:18] last year I experimented with was
[6:20] something on the side and it taught me a
[6:24] lot and that I'm grateful for it taught
[6:27] me about expressing myself it taught me
[6:30] about communication it taught me about
[6:31] taking risk and measure risk and it
[6:35] taught me to understand where where my
[6:38] limits are what I need to balance and it
[6:41] didn't quite work out the way I expected
[6:43] and that's okay and then you made me
[6:45] realize okay what else do I enjoy what
[6:47] else is my passion what else do I feel
[6:50] like my purpose is out there and I CED
[6:53] it and so now I have a new goal still
[6:56] leveraging the learnings that I had from
[6:58] last year leveraging the learnings I get
[7:00] out now and like communication and and
[7:03] how to make myself more visible out
[7:06] there and so it still
[7:09] supports that long-term fire
[7:12] goal fact that moved up my fire goal but
[7:15] um I've accelerated the timeline for it
[7:18] uh I don't think it's I don't think you
[7:20] know it's necessarily going to take 10
[7:22] years um I I really do hope it take less
[7:25] time than that um but again as I'm
[7:27] tracking towards and as I looking at
[7:31] okayy how am I doing on an annual basis
[7:33] how am I doing on a quarterly basis or
[7:37] how am my on the right so that's how I
[7:40] try to break up a very big goow into
[7:43] just measurable stat and even so much
[7:46] just so going into finer detail as
[7:49] looking at the weekly basis or the bases
[7:53] what is like R purple
[7:55] s and and then I leave a break it down
[7:58] and say what is my book then what should
[8:00] I do today this one little thing that
[8:03] will just inch me full seing that full
[8:06] whether it's reading a blog or listening
[8:10] to my favorite audio book or watching it
[8:13] or really qu mix video that relates to
[8:17] that my project whatever little I can
[8:21] keep moving forward I just feel like I
[8:23] don't do something for mental eaching
[8:25] and not how small it is that there's
[8:29] that risk of losing momentum so it's
[8:32] taking very small measurable steps but
[8:36] still looking at a year five years and
[8:40] 10 years down the
[8:43] road I did not know about
[8:46] this by go that you were spreading this
[8:49] to other people what this mean can you
[8:51] can I ask some followup questions on
[8:53] that if you're open to share about it
[8:57] yeah what is the what a Spire actually
[9:00] stands for or something what was your
[9:03] project you said you was sharing that
[9:06] with other people you were trying to
[9:08] bring more people to that V uh that
[9:11] philosophy was it a sub mentorship that
[9:14] you was giving to other people no not at
[9:16] all I from the fire perspective this is
[9:18] just something I like to share and talk
[9:20] about and get people's ideas but from my
[9:23] passion project on the side I was more
[9:26] looking towards getting into more the
[9:28] e-commerce space more specifically into
[9:32] 3D printing and creating designs and and
[9:36] being able to designs and thinking
[9:38] Services didn't really quite work out to
[9:40] R inspector but I learned a lot about
[9:44] again like I said communication planning
[9:47] what is marketable out there and so on
[9:51] oh okay got it got it
[9:55] okay okay so we talk about that your
[9:58] longterm project and then you have this
[10:01] uh fashion project that you tried last
[10:03] year and you have another one this year
[10:05] so these are one year duration that you
[10:08] try you you do the learning and then you
[10:10] apply it to something else and and one
[10:12] of the thing that you said that you
[10:15] applying the learning from the last year
[10:18] passion project to this year and I
[10:21] always believe when I share that our
[10:25] life is like Doc
[10:26] projects or puzzle pieces where you work
[10:30] on left hand side sometime right hand
[10:34] side and then other areas and then at
[10:37] some point the you see the big
[10:40] picture and in times with think that
[10:43] whatever we have done to years ago it
[10:45] was all based but when you see this big
[10:48] picture you it everything makes sense
[10:51] that yes they spent the time that I
[10:53] spent 2 years ago on doing something
[10:56] unrelated it does have a place in this
[10:59] big
[11:00] picture that is is so true I I you may
[11:04] think that something required a couple
[11:07] years ago is completely be completely
[11:09] unrelated to Something in the future but
[11:13] maybe you exercise a creative aspect of
[11:15] your mind in designing something years
[11:18] ago and then next year you've evolved in
[11:21] your role or whatever like to pursue in
[11:24] the future requires you to do some kind
[11:26] of graphic exing or writing something
[11:29] that you had learned previously it it
[11:32] leverages leverage that it all builds
[11:35] upon each other and at some point
[11:37] perhaps it even reveals that gift and
[11:40] talent that you meant to Victory the
[11:42] world which is at like legal blocks and
[11:45] pieces that it build until you see this
[11:47] final Masterpiece of a product that that
[11:51] that you realize this is what you're
[11:52] meant to do yeah that is so
[11:55] true I want to see a few more minutes on
[12:00] this long-term
[12:01] planning and I will bring some friction
[12:06] characters so that we can we can have
[12:08] some example to talk about so my
[12:11] fictional character is a web developer
[12:14] and they go through different life cycle
[12:17] they start at some point where they are
[12:20] learning and then applying a new job
[12:23] when they get the first job from that
[12:25] point to until two years or 3 years
[12:29] they're trying to figure it out and then
[12:32] trying to grow themsel into a senior and
[12:35] then the life keep go on for them there
[12:41] are at least 50 different thing that
[12:43] they have to learn they cannot do all of
[12:45] them in one year one month right but
[12:48] it's so it there is an anxiety of I mean
[12:53] here for three years and I need to learn
[12:55] Cloud I need to learn this new AI based
[12:59] technology or machine learning they
[13:01] cannot do all that same apply to any
[13:05] long-term goal where you have this big
[13:08] aspiration big Direction and then you
[13:11] have to break that into pieces and then
[13:14] you can only select one or maximum two
[13:16] or three pieces that you can work on and
[13:20] then you have to wait for 3 months 6
[13:23] months a year to try something else so
[13:26] with that background question number one
[13:29] you probably have the similar type
[13:31] of anxieties excitement that you want to
[13:34] do 10 different things how do you select
[13:37] what is that one thing that you will
[13:39] focus on and two months later 3 months
[13:42] later 6 month later you still discipline
[13:45] yourself that I have picked this and I
[13:47] will focus on this for certain duration
[13:51] yeah I think there's actually a a legit
[13:54] form for this type of people like
[13:55] multi-passionate type of individuals
[13:58] I'll tell you when I was Elementary
[14:01] School AG maybe about 11 years old mean
[14:04] I wanted to be everything when I grew up
[14:06] as I want to be aarian I wanted to be a
[14:10] fashion designer I wanted to be an
[14:12] animator I didn't want to be an
[14:14] astronaut and they would always joke to
[14:17] me I was be in the whole world and you
[14:19] want you to find time to do all that I I
[14:21] could definitely relate and trying to
[14:24] narrow the focus is almost like having
[14:25] ADHD for careers speak of like oh that
[14:29] sounds cool I want to try that I've
[14:30] certainly lived that that gam I after I
[14:34] was in high school I wanted to be a
[14:35] fashion designer design a lot of clothes
[14:37] was was working to get into a fashion
[14:39] school went to computer science
[14:42] instead and then I up my computer
[14:45] science degree actually went The
[14:46] Culinary management and then I still to
[14:48] be a
[14:48] s and and then I actually B an AA and
[14:52] graphic design I tried lots of different
[14:54] things so I can definitely relate to the
[14:56] fictional character why to trying and do
[14:59] different things and we're just spending
[15:01] time mastering something before they try
[15:03] something else it's um but you're right
[15:08] at some point you have to just focus
[15:12] pick something and just give it a shot I
[15:15] think the challenges is that you're
[15:17] thinking in your mind what if what are
[15:19] the opportunity cost of me not picking
[15:22] the other thing I could have been
[15:24] successful in that in that
[15:26] other yeah but the same time could be
[15:29] very successful in in this one thing
[15:31] we're trying out now that you're
[15:32] focusing right now I would be successful
[15:34] in all of them
[15:37] but but you're right it is important to
[15:40] at least give one pick one give it a
[15:43] focus a concered effort that's really
[15:45] what I did last year like last year I I
[15:48] developed a
[15:50] an 3D containment cons so much
[15:53] information and I learned a whole lot of
[15:55] stuff and I think think it some a really
[15:57] Unique Piece say that I was really proud
[16:00] of and I don't consider it a waste of
[16:03] time I consider it time L done and
[16:06] that's good and I know that it's
[16:07] something that I continue to leverage in
[16:10] in
[16:12] future future things I want to char what
[16:14] do you want to be when you grow up I'm
[16:16] still trying to figure that out I know a
[16:18] lot of people are still trying to figure
[16:19] it out
[16:22] too pick one give it a shot time box it
[16:27] as a developer if you're working on a
[16:29] spum team and you're familiar with time
[16:31] boxing tell yourself hey I'm going to
[16:34] give this from year I think be years
[16:37] pretty fair enough duration of time to
[16:41] to experiment and and give it a sh and
[16:45] determine what your success criteria is
[16:49] whether it's I money bation by the end
[16:53] of this 12 months or I want to complete
[16:55] two projects uh by the end of this qu or
[16:59] this one and if you are successful in
[17:02] that then I they wasti you're on the
[17:04] right track and keep going um but if
[17:08] you're saying that the results aren't
[17:09] what you're expecting then considering
[17:12] it's okay uh a lot of people I don't
[17:15] want to try I don't want to be I don't I
[17:16] don't want to feel you kind different
[17:19] things to find the right one yeah and so
[17:22] going back to this fictional character
[17:25] this person has three year of experience
[17:26] want to be a senior have done something
[17:29] probably missing some other thing what
[17:31] would be your suggestion how this person
[17:35] should approach now I am asking you this
[17:39] question as two qualities that you have
[17:43] two skills that you have you you're the
[17:45] director of the pmo is you can break
[17:47] things apart and give steps to anything
[17:50] and then second you have been into this
[17:53] position where you have helped other
[17:56] people grow from Jun Junior to senior to
[17:59] leaders so I I wanted to share ask you
[18:03] as an open question that how would you
[18:06] guide this person the first part is how
[18:08] would I guide that person into figuring
[18:10] out which area to focus
[18:12] on yeah because between a junior to
[18:15] senior they probably things and then
[18:18] certifications education skills
[18:21] experience all that I I think the first
[18:23] question I would ask is what do they
[18:26] want for them
[18:29] um and really try to
[18:31] understand um what does what do they
[18:36] love um what has meaning to
[18:39] them uh and what why
[18:41] doing because as a developer you could
[18:45] there's different facets you could be
[18:47] front end developer full stack developer
[18:49] be backend developer you be you WR API
[18:54] so there's different aspects to it I
[18:56] think the first question on your St the
[18:58] underlying motivations were we be find
[19:01] and S feeling in the zone back when I
[19:04] used to be a full staff developer I
[19:06] really felt myself in the zone when I
[19:09] was designing for and working on
[19:12] new didn't as much enjoy writing
[19:15] transact sequels St procedures but some
[19:19] it's I think what understand what did
[19:22] they enjoy spending the I
[19:24] on and that would then help me to
[19:27] understand what when going to give them
[19:28] as far as what kind of
[19:31] certifications that they should
[19:33] pursue so that would be part one and
[19:36] then I guess the second question and
[19:39] more
[19:40] around where to to find that kind of
[19:43] information or tell me a little bit more
[19:45] so I know how it answer best way yes
[19:48] thank you thank you for answering that
[19:50] question and I will come back to this
[19:52] from a frontend poch developer to
[19:55] director of pmo how that happened so
[19:57] we'll come back back to that in a
[20:00] second so let's say this person required
[20:03] two
[20:04] certification five soft skills and some
[20:08] new programming that this person has to
[20:11] to learn and the first step would be to
[20:14] identify this so this person has
[20:16] identified person identifi the
[20:18] motivation as well backend yay and then
[20:22] then he has bunch of or she has bunch of
[20:25] things like almost seven eight 10 things
[20:29] cannot do all of them so the first step
[20:32] would be to align it to a year six month
[20:36] something that they will have to do in
[20:39] that case I would want or Sate like the
[20:42] same question what is it they during
[20:45] what aspect of development brings them
[20:48] the most joy that they find themselves
[20:50] well prioritize that try to
[20:54] prioritize what are the requirements to
[20:56] get them for where they are today when
[20:58] you need to really want to be Point V in
[21:02] the future and determine okay what are
[21:05] this dations what the classes they need
[21:07] to take try to identify if they want to
[21:10] be a senior developer what
[21:12] certifications are needed and we senior
[21:15] developer you're going to have some
[21:17] leadership understanding and being able
[21:20] to have some emotional intelligence to
[21:23] deal with other people can be demanding
[21:25] on your time so I would Rec men for them
[21:29] to to try and sprinkle in throughout
[21:33] their week make like a a road map a game
[21:36] plan of of all the things that they
[21:39] should try to
[21:41] accomplish if they have a goal that they
[21:44] want to be their junior develop right
[21:46] now and their goal is to be a senior
[21:48] developer in five years plus b in three
[21:50] years in three years then I would
[21:53] probably tell them okay let's take a
[21:55] look at this bu that you need maybe
[21:56] there's certain program languages they
[21:58] need to learn maybe they need to also
[22:03] learn certain testing skills and what
[22:05] notot and Tool skills so we're talking
[22:08] those specific
[22:09] Technologies um then let's talk about
[22:11] the soft skills they need just
[22:13] communication and build in presentations
[22:15] with your and your developer you need to
[22:17] be able
[22:18] to um and then we will make the backlog
[22:21] of all those things will we need to
[22:23] accomplish or should properly try to
[22:25] accomplish and then we can prioritize
[22:27] that treat yourself like a
[22:29] project treat yourself like a
[22:33] product and build your own personal
[22:36] product grow more and say okay by the
[22:39] end of this two weeks Sprint this is
[22:41] what I'm going to accomplish another
[22:43] claps I'm going to tap this is the mini
[22:45] goals from marel and then after the end
[22:48] of two weeks black the fact did I do it
[22:51] with did I were do I like it do I need
[22:53] to Pivot and then ask the same question
[22:56] in month in four until you get to that
[22:59] year and see are you growing at to be to
[23:04] fit the threeyear goal of developer
[23:08] thank you work break down a structure
[23:10] always right step when you lead the P
[23:17] team from a full te developer to
[23:21] director of pmo how did happen I don't
[23:24] think we talk about that last day I I
[23:27] don't know I don't think think I did
[23:28] either it started again my whole journey
[23:32] started at Disney and I wrote back then
[23:36] it was Visual
[23:37] Basic and we evoled into that and all
[23:41] just like vb.net and I
[23:44] C and and what the other silver light
[23:48] was our front stack that we used and we
[23:51] were a SQL Server back in database R SQL
[23:55] so did our own data modeling for
[23:57] database structure and it was a lot of
[24:00] fun I I enjoy getting in the zone of
[24:03] knowing as a product that we needed to
[24:05] build and being able to solve the
[24:07] challenges and creating something for
[24:10] our internal clients to use but at some
[24:14] point I think it was probably around I
[24:17] did it for about 10 years and I realized
[24:19] I I was struggling and trying to keep up
[24:21] with the latest tools and
[24:23] technology and my mom actually told me
[24:25] hey why don't you go into dep of
[24:27] management and she herself was an it she
[24:29] was a VA this is analyst for an IT
[24:32] organization I thought about I'm like
[24:34] yeah sure I'm G the L and she told me
[24:36] about the p& in the exam how hard it was
[24:39] that was always good for a good you know
[24:41] Challenge and so I I pursue that and I
[24:44] and it took me some time but I got on
[24:46] the first try and if anybody's curious
[24:49] about how do one go about getting the PN
[24:52] there's in particular approach to T I'm
[24:54] happy to share that with anybody but it
[24:57] is a I really a b certification and as
[24:59] soon as my leader saw that I was serious
[25:02] about maybe switching be a little bit
[25:04] and when I got the P because there a
[25:06] reallyi parts think chire they started
[25:08] handing me projects and okay let's give
[25:10] it a shot you why don't you lead this
[25:13] project with another more seent
[25:16] experienc project
[25:17] manager and I did really well because I
[25:21] enjoy
[25:21] planning and that kind of talent and
[25:26] well passion mind being able to plan
[25:28] with parties being a events that that
[25:31] thinking of what if is really handy to
[25:34] have as a c manager and I did really
[25:37] well and for more projects and
[25:39] eventually they said hey we want to try
[25:41] something different let's go
[25:44] agile they brought in an agile coach and
[25:46] I really enjoyed the collaborative
[25:49] nature and really seem to suit my
[25:51] personality of of being a servant leader
[25:54] and taking care of my team and then
[25:56] moving blockers as a opposed to standard
[25:59] project manager need to do this delegate
[26:02] work do that where are you to me so it
[26:06] evolved from developing full stack to
[26:10] project management traditional project
[26:12] management to here let's try different
[26:14] asual approaches I me more our mindset
[26:17] and then responsibility started more to
[26:20] me more leadership opportunities came to
[26:23] me and I I managed a team and then next
[26:26] thing I know I'm leing agile te and then
[26:30] I'm leaving and then here I
[26:33] in
[26:38] well you keep grabbing the fortunity
[26:40] that into your way yeah I that's to be
[26:44] to be open to New Opportunities and
[26:47] experiences that people offer you and to
[26:51] listen you make you're something that
[26:53] hits your interest know right and see
[26:55] where it takes you see or a PMP exam I
[26:59] did the training and for 2 3 years I was
[27:02] not 2 years I was not preparing for the
[27:05] exam actually and then finally I made my
[27:08] mind just because it was bothering me
[27:10] too much like why I'm not doing why I'm
[27:13] not doing this and then once I made up
[27:15] my mind I have to uninstall all my
[27:18] social applications to be able to focus
[27:21] but then I did
[27:23] it and just 6 month 3 months ago one of
[27:28] my friend he is a friend from my college
[27:31] I know him for 25 30 years now and he
[27:35] did PMP exam and the reason for him is
[27:39] we were just talking and he wanted to do
[27:41] something and I said let's do this and I
[27:44] don't know whether or not this will help
[27:47] you in your career uh whether or not you
[27:50] will be able to get a job after this but
[27:53] by clearing this you will have a mind
[27:56] shift that that you was able to achieve
[27:59] something that is beyond you think uh
[28:02] you can and that's exactly what's
[28:05] happening learning with them that is
[28:08] that is excellent it's always good to
[28:10] try something and really stretch
[28:13] yourself uh it may not be something you
[28:15] you may use in your future but the fact
[28:17] that you go out of your comfort zone
[28:19] like you friend and challenged himself
[28:22] to CH something that is actually pretty
[28:24] quite difficult to do not many people
[28:26] ask it gives you that that
[28:29] confidence to keep going forward so yeah
[28:32] that I complely agree for sure so yeah
[28:35] and and what is happening to him he he
[28:38] started learning as some of the thing
[28:40] that he didn't think about doing a year
[28:43] ago now it's it just he feel I think
[28:46] it's the the confidence that comes from
[28:49] inside that he can do anything that he
[28:52] want now because he was able to do that
[28:55] that that is so true is is his goal to
[28:57] become a project manager
[29:00] or he want so he's he just want to get a
[29:06] better be at a better place when where
[29:09] he is right now so whether it is a
[29:11] combination of a project manager and a
[29:13] develop leader or as a project manager
[29:18] something yeah and that CL cation gives
[29:21] you an appreciation and a perspective
[29:23] even if we don't go into that wall
[29:25] perhaps there in that wall
[29:28] what they are trying to do to accomplish
[29:31] their projects and
[29:34] their we're going to get deeper into uh
[29:37] some of the goal setting so we talk
[29:40] about long-term planning we talk about
[29:42] how focusing on one thing and it's
[29:45] sticking with that your time frame as
[29:49] you said about a year and and you decide
[29:52] those goals on your birthday um that's
[29:56] another philosophy that you you have so
[29:58] once you decide a goal a big goal you
[30:02] also talk about breaking that and
[30:04] tracking so let's get deeper into that
[30:07] uh how exactly you divide your big goal
[30:11] into steps will break down structure how
[30:14] do you do that and then how do you break
[30:18] it enough or identify that for April
[30:23] month you going to be doing this May
[30:28] June July and how do
[30:31] you go break them further for a weekly
[30:35] plan so let's go there excellently like
[30:40] you mentioned I don't really like to do
[30:42] goal settings at the top of the calendar
[30:44] year I like to do them on my birthday
[30:47] for
[30:48] one when you celebrate your birth with
[30:51] you your life cycle as opposed to please
[30:55] everybody just some kind of New Year's
[30:58] resolution then
[31:00] on so for me it just has more meaning um
[31:04] when it's your birthday because it's
[31:05] more intimate to you in the case for
[31:07] example like I was telling you about
[31:10] that the I had a particular goals and I
[31:14] I said okay I'm going to going to try it
[31:16] for a year uh and I'm want to learn from
[31:18] it uh in that time frame what I did was
[31:23] I I said okay this My Success criteria
[31:25] by the end of this year within the near
[31:28] XYZ we is to establish a a marketpl for
[31:31] it to X number of signs whatever it I
[31:35] had to CH it to be then I had to think
[31:38] about what is it I need to do to get
[31:40] there what am I lacking what is the
[31:43] things that are getting me the most FL
[31:45] what do I need to learn and I found
[31:48] about I
[31:49] already is thing do I know about
[31:54] modeling I need to brush that off that
[31:56] off so I then looked at okay where do I
[31:59] want to be 6 months from
[32:01] now and then I looked at where do I want
[32:04] to three Mon and that was in my
[32:08] particular case Okay I want to make it
[32:10] to establish an
[32:11] LC I want to establish maybe AER site
[32:16] platform I want to be able to I need to
[32:20] start ingesting learning materials to
[32:22] figure out how do I get myself to to
[32:26] being
[32:27] in what skill set so I would do that and
[32:31] then on a weekly basis I said okay I BL
[32:35] I still have my family I I have my job
[32:39] and I still have to focus on that as a
[32:41] priority day job and my family and so
[32:45] what the what time is that with and
[32:49] obviously it's just going to be a c of
[32:50] your time but you have to commit to
[32:54] yourself will set aside an hour a day to
[32:58] F so so that is what makes the
[33:01] difference in the on macro level but
[33:04] then ultimately have to look at in the
[33:07] micro detail level what are the the
[33:09] Small intermental Things They Mak can do
[33:11] with moving I'm old
[33:14] school I keep old school notebook as a
[33:17] journal I know a lot of people out there
[33:19] have moried they use your their tablets
[33:22] and your phones iPhones and
[33:24] devices there you go you're all needs
[33:28] there's something that you can't be by
[33:29] writing something down the piece of
[33:31] paper although I do have my appleing to
[33:34] write it there too is there's
[33:36] something that feels a little bit
[33:38] different when you're writing in ouren
[33:39] piece of of Paper Plus the battery
[33:41] doesn't die on you when you actually
[33:42] have pH notebook so that's where I would
[33:45] do a lot of the pap this is my do for
[33:48] week Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
[33:52] Friday and I would set an intention of
[33:55] okay before I sign for the day I want to
[33:59] watch this YouTube video on
[34:03] spce and then I would set an intention
[34:08] of maybe Saturday or Sundays when I
[34:10] would actually that's my day of creation
[34:13] where I will take what I learn follow
[34:15] the videos podcast social media and
[34:18] starty to actually apply it towards
[34:20] doing at something this Collective
[34:22] aspect of my Pion project and that will
[34:25] be my routine every week
[34:27] Monday morning learn something Tuesday
[34:29] Morning learn something else thing
[34:33] Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday
[34:34] Sund was actually apply what I learned
[34:37] and then
[34:42] Run results were vary it all depends on
[34:46] everybody else's own personal fashion
[34:49] project but the the the method and and
[34:54] the pattern and the prespective steps
[34:56] are always still the same start ma bre
[34:59] it down until you can get into your
[35:02] manageable chunks that you achieve
[35:03] puring what you saying that for your
[35:07] week you have exact HS for each week
[35:12] that's what I mean if somebody have not
[35:14] heard this I want to emphasize that what
[35:17] you're saying is you're not talking
[35:20] about a time table you're talking about
[35:22] a timetable and a specific item in those
[35:25] time slots
[35:27] cor cor if somebody's is trying to
[35:32] develop their saer development
[35:34] proficiency again going back
[35:36] to the fictional person is trying to
[35:39] grow themselves from a junior developer
[35:41] to a senior developer they would look at
[35:44] okay make sure I reserve an hour each
[35:47] day to do learning you know maybe
[35:51] another hour each day to to do practice
[35:55] and flying and if that's not feasible
[35:58] then maybe it's a half hour each day or
[36:00] maybe it's an hour Monday but they get
[36:02] the weekend into applying that practical
[36:05] knowledge um again results were very
[36:07] depend on
[36:08] everything commitment family time and
[36:11] whatnot and
[36:12] Par that consistent consist yes this is
[36:16] great we what you're saying a year
[36:21] breaking doing research breaking those
[36:25] into pieces and then making a
[36:27] plan and out you talk about some outcome
[36:31] related goal 6 month and three month and
[36:35] then you talk about some action related
[36:37] goals that these are the action that you
[36:39] will take and these are the outcome that
[36:42] you're
[36:43] expecting and and those are like 6 month
[36:46] 3 month one month and then you're
[36:48] talking about a weekly schedule and
[36:51] you're talking about a daily uh not we
[36:54] daily but exact action item for the week
[36:58] and the weekend wow you quit break it up
[37:02] daily so people it's like exercise right
[37:05] you want to set sides and so not just
[37:08] exercise with physical body exercise
[37:10] with physical brain you're learning what
[37:12] you need to do get you to take those
[37:15] actual steps to apply it and you from
[37:18] into your
[37:19] B so leani by by this time you have this
[37:23] plan you have this you know exactly what
[37:25] you're doing this week what are
[37:27] different reviews that you do so when do
[37:29] you create this week plan is that part
[37:32] of your weekly review it's that part of
[37:34] something else yeah and I say it it
[37:38] sounds very much like a a a scrum scrum
[37:41] based approach the truth is it works
[37:43] right uh instead of a SC team it's a
[37:46] team of one looking at yourself as not
[37:48] just the product owner and the scum
[37:49] master and the do you the whole thing
[37:52] yeah it a lot of the same principles
[37:54] apply all set the book all my intention
[37:58] on a and this back I'll look at my week
[38:01] on the Sunday I'll look at my even my
[38:04] work calender on the Sunday to see
[38:06] what's what is expected to go me and
[38:08] then I'll black and see okay what I need
[38:10] to do on the personal level for my
[38:13] personal goals for that week and what do
[38:17] I want to accomplish I there this book I
[38:19] want to week or there's this YouTube
[38:22] series that I want to watch or this
[38:23] master class I want to watch during this
[38:26] week they'll help me get where I want to
[38:28] go and I'll make the goal okay I want to
[38:31] get through all that or maybe I want to
[38:34] talk to somebody and I want to meet this
[38:36] person who has experience that I I want
[38:39] to know them I want to make a goal to
[38:41] set up time to adop this person um by
[38:44] the end of this just these little micel
[38:46] goals all been establishing that on
[38:49] Sunday and say okay I want to do this by
[38:53] the following Saturday and then usually
[38:55] I'll look back on a Saturday or Sunday
[38:58] weekends are the best days for me
[38:59] because obviously I'm not tied to any me
[39:01] it's my time it's being my family um and
[39:06] I'll look back and say okay but I who
[39:08] and and if he didn't because something
[39:09] PO outg with Senor work Mar came up I
[39:14] don't beat myself over give yourself
[39:16] some brace just know that just stay
[39:18] focus say you know what it's the second
[39:21] user St I have to roll it over to the
[39:22] next and we'll try it there but using I
[39:26] tried to reflect on you know my
[39:29] intentions with a week on or Sunday
[39:31] Saturday and Sunday so we started with
[39:33] year month week so now one more level on
[39:37] a day to day basis your day is crazy you
[39:42] have so many things for 9 to5 job and
[39:44] then you have your own passion project
[39:47] plus family and 10 other things and I
[39:50] know how your life would be um is where
[39:53] you probably get Two Three Fires a day
[39:56] uh normally so how do you protect uh
[39:59] your day for these aspirational
[40:05] project yeah that's and that can be
[40:08] challenging because
[40:10] work work is a priority your 95 and that
[40:15] is put on the table it's what takes care
[40:18] of the the physicalities of your
[40:21] carine so there are are definitely ways
[40:25] um to dedicated anything that Sac good
[40:28] fun like for me for example I always try
[40:31] to make sure and and my team knows this
[40:34] I put no meetings on my calendar from
[40:37] noon noon to 1:00 no meetings I go put
[40:41] meetings on my team English calendar on
[40:43] my col's calendar and then put meetings
[40:45] on my calendar during that time it's
[40:47] usually decline unless I know something
[40:50] that's spge the this year what gives me
[40:53] the mental braak that I need to charge
[40:56] Terry gives me an opportunity to re and
[40:59] digest and do something fun that's PR
[41:02] that nourishes my personal goals that's
[41:06] one thing the other thing is first thing
[41:08] in the morning A lot of times if you can
[41:11] set aside as part of your morning rual
[41:13] the opportunity to me to reflect to
[41:16] journal that's another opportunties
[41:18] before anybody can hit you thigh first
[41:21] thing the morning is of a great time the
[41:24] last thing then I I'll offer works for
[41:26] me and may not work for everybody on um
[41:29] their responsibili as an organization is
[41:32] on a Friday afternoon I have Institute
[41:35] my team no meetings on Friday afternoon
[41:38] it should be a time to catch up on we
[41:41] administrator to catch up on any so that
[41:45] your
[41:46] weekness there is less impact of 95 job
[41:50] on your weekend so you've been focused
[41:51] on your personal bows your family and
[41:54] whatever else is should P there are
[41:56] are those are just vales that you set
[41:59] for yourself and set for th to help
[42:02] protect our personal
[42:05] space and one last question on this uh
[42:08] segment what's your day in a life look
[42:11] like what what's your typical day look
[42:14] like I can tell you the right now
[42:16] because I'm as I'm transitioning roles
[42:18] and may not be saying you be ask me the
[42:20] M probably different but up until now a
[42:24] difficult day in my life I W up at 5:30
[42:26] in the morning and I I work get my my
[42:29] son out of bed and ready for school as a
[42:32] 15-year-old it can be challenging to
[42:34] they must stay in bance s but usually
[42:36] he's out the door by 6:30 and between
[42:40] 6:30 and 8:00 it's usually to be quiet
[42:43] for me I don't have to go in the office
[42:45] and then gives me a chance maybe about
[42:47] half hour to an hour to to I I always do
[42:52] the Tim my Fusion it helps to steal my
[42:55] mind it helps me to make
[42:59] blacken once I do that meditation I'll
[43:02] just in mind for then if there are
[43:06] certain podcasts or videos or things I
[43:12] wonder you that help Mar my personal
[43:14] project I'll take that time as well and
[43:17] then usually my day starts walk by
[43:19] around 8:00 and then my 9 to5 by 8 to 5
[43:23] whatever feels in full lunchtime I may
[43:26] have an opportunity to to and read
[43:29] something fun um like I mentioned and
[43:32] then usually I pretty much done for the
[43:35] day by around
[43:37] 5:30 uh occasionally there may be some
[43:40] meetings or follow up but I need try to
[43:42] make it up to be done with the day by
[43:44] six o' and um put in the workout
[43:47] exercise is important but something else
[43:50] if I feel stuck if I got writers block I
[43:52] will go on the CH now and usually some
[43:56] movement helps to get me on Star it help
[43:58] to get me the thing of favorite things I
[44:00] tend to have ADHD and focus on a lot of
[44:03] little things walking helps me to focus
[44:06] on the problem I need to solve that yeah
[44:09] and then that's my day I'm usually in
[44:10] bed by 10 o'clock there's some dinner
[44:13] beforehand and maybe I'll watch a
[44:15] program or two on on TV but then that's
[44:17] my thing and then the
[44:20] weekends weekends Li I'm usually doy
[44:23] something with my family we try to get
[44:25] outside
[44:26] we I have most like family and my
[44:29] husband is his family here in Florida so
[44:31] we we are out of about with them
[44:33] sometimes as well but usually either
[44:36] Saturday or Sunday there's usually a
[44:38] good chunk of the day where I'm at home
[44:40] and I will make them out to to actually
[44:44] applying things that I learned
[44:46] throughout the week and Mak some real
[44:48] table that's where can have some Focus
[44:50] hours on my personal project but yeah
[44:54] majority of the weekend is dedicated to
[44:55] the being with them that's important too
[44:59] yeah is is a good time too I try not to
[45:02] focus on
[45:03] looking then thank you so much for
[45:05] sharing this this is you your R you have
[45:08] a solid
[45:10] routine it's not easy I mean I I'll tell
[45:13] you it's never it's it was not always so
[45:16] consistent because like you mentioned
[45:18] there this thing this desire one to
[45:20] focus on so many things at once but the
[45:23] key is to pick one try
[45:26] full time together in both do you use or
[45:30] should I say what are the different time
[45:33] management systems or framework that you
[45:36] use
[45:38] l from a time management perspective I
[45:41] time box
[45:43] things to make sure that un are spending
[45:47] too much time on particular social all
[45:50] time
[45:51] boet 15 minutes SP half an hour so not
[45:55] overing certain things um but I don't
[45:58] really subcribe to particular Tim
[46:01] philosopy I just try to work in inment
[46:04] and um and
[46:06] just thank you thank you so much for
[46:08] sharing all this we are at 542 I did
[46:12] book this until 5:15 but I didn't ask
[46:14] you do you have few more minutes
[46:16] or of course I want to show you the
[46:20] system that I'm using right now for my
[46:24] planning yeah to see it okay so I will
[46:27] share my screen okay okay this is notion
[46:31] again this is will come to this these
[46:33] are my digital product that I have
[46:36] created and uh one of them is quarterly
[46:39] planning book I have 3.0 funny we have
[46:43] Advent Health app 3.0 and my quarterly
[46:46] planning is also
[46:50] 3.0 but it comes with some instructions
[46:53] I have recorded a new video for this
[46:55] which which is uh my video editor is
[46:57] currently editing that so it comes with
[46:59] some instructions and what it has is a
[47:03] quarterly planning workbook workbook
[47:06] where there are multiple step step
[47:09] number one you think about everything
[47:11] that you want to do everything that is
[47:13] going on in your life and then you pick
[47:15] one of the focus area you define some
[47:18] clear goal in that and then make it very
[47:23] specific and then write one line that
[47:25] why why this goal matters to you and
[47:28] what will happen if you achieve it what
[47:30] will happen if you don't achieve it and
[47:33] then sorry okay you were saying
[47:36] something no I love it this this is
[47:39] great this really helps it to put that
[47:41] Focus again on
[47:43] that yeah and then you build the action
[47:46] plan just like how you were saying all
[47:48] the steps and then converting those
[47:50] steps into daily actions once you're
[47:53] done with it you go back to this page
[47:56] where you summarize everything in one
[47:59] View and then you actually create a time
[48:02] schedule for yourself you keep jotting
[48:05] down your
[48:07] accomplishment and then U it has some
[48:10] kind of vision board but then your
[48:13] areas project that you have identified
[48:17] and then the task and then it comes with
[48:20] some of the template to do the weekly
[48:23] review monthly and year review so all
[48:26] that and then so that's a product that I
[48:29] have created and I I'm sharing that as
[48:32] one of the free products so I'm not
[48:33] charging anyone for this I plan to make
[48:38] it I'm writing a ultimate guide that
[48:41] these two will become a bundle and then
[48:44] I have been using exact same System
[48:47] since October of last year so this is my
[48:50] third third third quarter where I'm
[48:54] trying to use it the whole concept is
[48:57] that you you just how we do a quarterly
[49:01] planning and you have a list of things
[49:03] you pick up your focus and then you
[49:06] stick with that Focus so I will show
[49:08] exactly how my look mind look like so
[49:12] these are all the different things I
[49:15] pick that building digital product as my
[49:17] primary focus for Q2 and then I had many
[49:23] ideas I pick this is ultim guide for
[49:26] time management system for web developer
[49:28] is one thing that I will focus on I made
[49:32] very specific with adding some dates
[49:34] around it and and then the outcome
[49:36] around it and these are the two thing
[49:39] that I would need to be able to do this
[49:42] and promote this so they are there and
[49:45] then um you will see that 9 to5 job is
[49:47] one of my conflict I do that I I try to
[49:51] identify everything that can hold me
[49:54] back uh um my gardening I mean anything
[49:57] that comes here I try to write exactly
[50:00] why I want to do this and then the build
[50:03] an action plan and then move it here
[50:06] which is where you will see that these
[50:09] are accomplishment from q1 I had in q1
[50:14] my goal was to identify that one thing
[50:16] that I want to offer I could help a web
[50:19] developer in 10 different ways but what
[50:21] is that one thing and I picked that time
[50:23] management is that one thing
[50:26] that's my bus where I ask them hop out
[50:29] into this bus and then I will take you
[50:31] to the to one of the outcom so again it
[50:35] take same approach that you were saying
[50:37] that by 30 I want to finish it by 15 I
[50:40] want to sell it and by March by June I
[50:44] want to earn $1,000 from it and then it
[50:47] has exact actions outcome and actions
[50:52] that what are the different thing that I
[50:54] can check mark why this goal and then
[50:57] this is these are the step this is just
[51:00] plain work breakdown structure the steps
[51:02] and then this is where the daily actions
[51:04] comes that on Friday exactly what I'm
[51:07] doing Saturday Monday so everything is
[51:11] Define and this is I just started doing
[51:14] this one that if I have a if I have to
[51:17] pick and I can only do two things these
[51:20] are the two thing that I will be able to
[51:21] do not anything else must have nice to
[51:26] have this is amazing like great lines
[51:29] are thinking alike it's this truly
[51:32] treating yourself like a product and a
[51:34] project that plan creating those
[51:37] priorities breaking it down water into
[51:40] the day level question free did you H
[51:42] your quarterly goals yes yes the
[51:45] quarterly so my goal for Q4 last
[51:48] year was to build this quarterly
[51:51] planning workbook build a product
[51:54] identify the different thing that I can
[51:56] help with offering so I I pick that the
[52:01] quarterly planning goal setting time
[52:03] management productivity all that and
[52:06] then identify who is that one person
[52:09] that I will be helping so that was my q1
[52:12] I identify what I will be out of 100
[52:16] thing I can help what will be that one
[52:20] thing and then who that person will be
[52:22] so I was able to pick a web develop as
[52:25] that one
[52:26] person that was the outcome of Q Q4 and
[52:31] then in q1 I had to Niche down from
[52:36] helping a web developer become a senior
[52:39] or productivity or language learning I
[52:42] had to nich down to my my goal was q1
[52:46] goal was to exactly what that one thing
[52:49] will be and that one thing will is time
[52:52] management so now I have time management
[52:54] for junior web developer and it I spent
[52:58] six month defining that for me um and
[53:01] that resonated with myself as well as
[53:04] the public uh audience and then
[53:08] this that's the next thing that I want
[53:10] to create this guide by end of this
[53:14] quarter you Q2 I I will be able to
[53:18] decide if I want to build a course
[53:20] around it if I want to build a cohort
[53:23] around it and idea is what is that one
[53:26] transformation that I can provide to
[53:28] this one person in four weeks five weeks
[53:31] St prayer and then then just this is the
[53:34] FI information but I have this task with
[53:39] with
[53:40] my this is the weekly review from last
[53:43] week and this will have all the
[53:45] different thing that I accomplish and
[53:49] other thing and this is my running week
[53:52] um this these are exact item that I
[53:55] am doing I can check mark this now and
[53:59] then what I try to do I try to keep
[54:02] track of things I haven't done this but
[54:05] this is exactly what my day looked like
[54:07] and I try to maintain and every time I
[54:10] try to pick that what are the top five
[54:12] items so I think what you I am following
[54:17] what you're what you have as the system
[54:20] and I use the notebook as well as the
[54:22] system love it I that this really
[54:26] putting the detail to it and I think
[54:30] something of this format this tool
[54:33] really helps to get people to hone in
[54:36] and zero in on what it is they need to
[54:38] focus on and really helps I think
[54:42] to
[54:44] minimize all the different competing
[54:46] priorities because you're really putting
[54:48] the energy and a fors that one in
[54:51] building a plan I think that's great yep
[54:54] I have
[54:56] so I've been running this quarterly
[54:58] planning Pi planning for Advent H app
[55:01] and I everything that I've learned
[55:03] everything I've tried I have put all
[55:06] that into this product to just like how
[55:09] you're
[55:10] saying from product to treating you and
[55:13] your aspiration as the product and
[55:15] building upon it quarter by quarter all
[55:18] right thank you so much Lani thank you
[55:20] so much for coming again in this podcast
[55:23] uh your wisdom
[55:25] your knowledge your experience can help
[55:28] many people and this podcast is will
[55:31] produce that results so thank you so
[55:33] much for spending your time is there any
[55:36] question do you have for me before we
[55:38] disconnect no no questions I just want
[55:40] to say thank you for inviting me and
[55:42] allowing me to share my experience with
[55:45] you and any listening and and I think
[55:48] what you are operating what you're doing
[55:51] you're sharing your knowledge you're
[55:52] getting other people to share their
[55:54] knowledge I think that's an amazing gift
[55:56] that's amazing to help the community so
[55:59] thank you for allowing me to do that uh
[56:02] I love the school and I love the
[56:04] conversation you're a brilliant person
[56:06] and and it's great to you have likeed
[56:09] conversation with you so happy to do
[56:11] wish you all the best for your new
[56:13] journey and thank you again thank you
